Spring Fever

In the Foulk household, this equates to a strawberry-filled carnival, a lot of yard work, and two guys overtaking my living room for four days as they scrape away the yucky popcorn ceilings.

First, the Poteet Strawberry Festival!
Mike and I headed south of San Antonio with some friends for a crazy, Latino-flavor filled carnival of epic proportions. (And it's called a Strawberry Festival, you ask? Mike was equally confused.) All the madness resulted with Mike and I chomping down on the following: cheeseburger (1), strawberry shortcake (1), sausage roll (1), Sprite (2), jumbo corndog (1), fresh picked strawberries (10). Here's us paying homage to the berry of the night:

The weirdest thing, and there was plenty to goggle at, trust me, was the banana derby, where little monkeys race around on the back of dogs. Bizarre, but true. I even have evidence:

Ah, South Texas. It's a weird, weird place sometimes.

Second, our wonderful little stone walkway!
Mike and I spent our free moments in between conference changing a very dry, unappealing bit of yard into this:

Yes, it's great, I know. All of these plants are supposedly fit for the excruciatingly hot summers here. I'm crossing my fingers I can keep them alive.

Third, our living room!
It's brilliant. The funny thing about this was we were simply planning on having our horrifically popcorned ceilings scraped and painted. However, when the painters arrived, they told us that the moisture from the ceiling would leave water streaks all down our walls. So with one day's notice, Mike and I settled on two grays (Sherwin Williams' Monorail Silver and Tinsmith, to be exact). Needless to say, I was a little panicky about choosing a paint color with minimal notice, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. Thoughts?
Here's a before shot:

And a mid-way shot:

And an after:

We no longer have popcorn on our ceilings! We no longer have a house squirming under the glare of builder-grade tan! And neither Mike nor I had to risk breaking our necks by climbing up the scaffolding to complete such an epic change. I think I may need some design advice about what to do with this new color, but I need to let the changes marinate for a while and form some sensible questions first.

Finally, baby & me at 24 weeks:

Ta da! I am actually 26 weeks as of today. A few months ago, baby's kidneys were measuring a little big, but at today's ultrasound, all looked well. He's 2 lbs, 3 ounces and quite the active fellow. My doctor held up the heart monitor to my belly and instantly cried, "Whoa! This baby is crazy!" He was kicking and punching so much that it took her a while to be able to actually hear the heartbeat. Crazy little man.

  4. I also love the paint. Couldn't tell you how to decorate with it, but it's a great start! And it's so good to hear you're not going to have a boring baby (you know, 'cause I was worried about that...)

  5. Sorry to bug you, Alli, but I am working on my small business going and was wondering how you got your tabs on your blog and how you set them up? You can see what I have done so far if you go to my blog and then hit Memories. Please tell me what you think about the summary. I have it in my head and am having a tough time getting the right wording out and getting it started. Thanks for your input and I enjoy your blog!
