Thoughts

Yesterday and today, I had the opportunity to listen to the General Conference for my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here are a few of my thoughts as I listened to the inspired brethren and sister of my church:
  • Your future is as bright as your faith. This reminded me of the Principles of Faith book by Joseph Smith, where he mentions that faith is a principle of power. It is the power by which God governs and the world exists. This is an awe-inspiring thought, especially when we apply it to ourselves. Having faith not only helps you, but it invokes you with actual power - the power of God. You can make your future equally as bright as He wants it to be for you through your faith.
  • Richard G. Scott spoke about the love in his family and I was so touched by what a blessing it is that we know how important and how beautiful the family truly is. Sometimes I take mine-and especially Mike-for granted. I am so lucky to have a wonderful, funny, sweet husband who honors his priesthood and who always tries to treat me with kindness and respect. I am so lucky! Marriage can be stressful, crazy, trying, etc. but it is also beautiful.
  • I enjoyed the thoughts by President Uchtdorf and Elder Bednar about how our faith is built not solely on visions, like that Paul had on the road to Damascus, but on small, everyday accumulations of God-given comfort, inspiration and knowledge.
In general, conference never ceases to make me feel more inclined to serve and less inclined to be selfish. It helps me to feel grateful for the abundant blessings I have in my life, for my ability to attend the temple and to feel the love of the saints around me, for the encouragement I feel to become a better person, and for the knowledge and truth that this gospel gives me.
