A Chef in Sheep's Clothing

There's a little website called Pinterest that I have been wasting spending too much time on lately. It has, at least, inspired me to try a few new recipes. I thought I would share the success and relative success* of a few of my new recipes.
I included a few photos I took and links to the original recipes too.

*Note: the relative success of any of the below recipes may or may not be based on the recipe itself, but on my inability to execute said recipe.

So...yum! Does the photo of this recipe (on the link) look amazing or what?! I have always loved mac and cheese and made a killer homemade version of this stuff my freshman year of college. Then I realized how expensive cheese was, and had to go back to the generic boxed stuff. Anyway, this recipe looked so delicious I had to try it.
My results:
I modified it a bit by swapping out the normal rotini for wheat rotini, which changed the color of my mac and cheese a bit, and added some fresh oregano from my garden, as well as cherry tomatoes to make the recipe a bit more healthy.
I accidentally added about half a box too much macaroni, for reasons which are beyond my grasp of understanding. I may have also not noticed that I was supposed to precook the noodles. About an hour into the crock pot time, I realized my mistakes and added some extra water and cheese. Even with my errors, the final result was pretty yummy! I look forward to trying it again and actually paying attention to the recipe. I give it 4 stars, with hopefully another star coming once user error is remedied.

My favorite food in the world may well be Panera's brocolli cheddar soup and stumbling upon this recipe made me think of just that. We had some friends staying the weekend with us (Trevor and Michelle, if you must know) and this was the perfect recipe to put in the crock pot during church.
My results:
Okay, so I didn't know what homestyle hashbrowns meant (apparently ones cut into squares?) so I just got the normal kind of hashbrowns. The result was that we had stringy potatoes in our soup instead of potato chunks. The soup was a bit bland even after adding the bacon and green onions to the top of it, but still qualifies as good comfort food. I give it 3 1/2 stars.

I've been getting these massive crates of tomatoes at Costco simply because they look so amazing that I can't resist. Hence, my sudden conundrum about what to do with 20 tomatoes. I have always wanted to try Fried Green Tomatoes and I thought to myself, Self, what about Fried Red Tomatoes instead? I found this recipe to get me going and modified it quite a bit with very yummy results!
My results:

I was out of flour and don't think I have once purchased cornmeal in my life, so I swapped those out for pancake mix and Italian bread crumbs. I also don't like to cook in vegetable oil, so I dry cooked these on my griddle. A bit of the dry ingredients fell off during the flipping, but the end result was nice and crispy, not greasy at all, which was well worth it. We ate these with some Mahi-Mahi cooked in a peach jalepeno sauce and they were the perfect side dish. I give them 5 stars!

Sometimes, I just love me some tuna! Seriously. I can't account for it. And an open-face, cheesy, carroty, tomato-topped tuna on whole wheat just sounded amazing.
Results:
Easy and fun to make. We were out of Mayo (I promise, I do occasionally go shopping... I just apparently fail to get what I need for my upcoming recipes) so I used Ranch dressing instead. When that ran out, I finished it off with some mustard and a few shakes of Italian dressing. On a funny side note, Mike asked if we had run out of bread because the sandwich was open-faced. Sheesh! How could he think I would ever run out of anything mid-recipe? Please! Anyway, the end result was quite delicious. As far as tuna sandwiches go, this one gets 5 stars.

As I've been typing these out, I am realizing what a preoccupied cook I am. I didn't cook even one of these recipes the way I was supposed to! Oops. Maybe I should focus on reading the recipe before throwing myself into it.

Naw... I think I'm good. And most of these recipes turned out fairly decent, errors and all.
