Spontaneous Renovation

My lovely sister came to visit me this past week. This time, I told myself, we were just going to hang out. Play with Eli. Go be tourists. Go shopping. And I could get her opinion about some house stuff, like what color curtains would look good in my living room.We started out with some great touristy stuff.
At the San Jose Mission
At the Alamo

On the Riverwalk
But what started as a late night conversations about curtains somehow morphed into us demolishing our living room fire place the next day. Go figure.

In my opinion, this turn of events was awesome. I wanted to learn to tile, but the task seemed daunting. Learning from a pro made things oh-so-much easier. Plus having Laurie's expert advice on things like color and tile choice made the selection process go much quicker. Here's a bit of the process:

And turned it into this:

Oh yeah, and the curtains look amazing too.

Library Nook
Bonus: new lamp.

All in all, a pretty excellent two days' work.
