Tis the Season to Party

On of the benefits of being a dual-income family (or in Mike's opinion, curses) is that we have not one, but two, holiday parties to attend. That means two Saturday nights where we get to dress up, listen to music, small talk with strangers and listen to endless jokes about alcohol.

You can see why it's simultaneously fun and tiring.

Mike's work party this year was Vegas-themed and the main attraction was Huey Lewis and the News, performing, among other things, the Back to the Future hit "The Power of Love." Definitely my favorite song of the night.

However, for us, the best part of the night was the dueling pianos performance. The guys were hilarious and very talented and would play any song the audience yelled out, including a hilarious rendition of an NSYNC song and Mike's suggestion, "Ring of Fire."

The next week, Mike was elated to attend my work party. This one was a bit more work for me since I was on the party planning committee, but the only snaffu of the night occured when I had to fix a PowerPoint presentation that had somehow gone astray. Beside that, we pretty much just ate, chatted and danced (well, I danced...).

It was a busy week, that's for sure!

I feel a bit ungrateful even though these both were really nice events. However, I think this year I felt like the Christmas season was so hurried that I didn't really get a lot of time to feel the peace of Christmas and to focus my thoughts on the Savior. And it really did feel like something was missing. I'm so excited for some changes that will be coming our family's way with the new year. Sometimes, I'm realizing, you just need time to breath. To think. And to be grateful. Yes, for our careers in this bustling city and for the fact that we are secure and safe this Christmas season. But also for the reason behind all the celebrating.
